There is a pattern worth naming, because it costs people money every year. Someone learns to stitch properly — really properly, the kind of finish a factory does not bother with — and then sells that work at whatever the nearest shop is willing to pay. The skill is excellent. The price is set by the fact that nobody outside two streets knows the skill exists.
Nothing about that is fixed by stitching better. It is fixed by the three things that sit between a finished garment and a customer: a photograph, a listing, and a way of being found.
First, the making
The craft comes first and there is no shortcut around it. Tailoring runs as a certificate over three or six months and as a one-year diploma that takes you from measuring and cutting through to drafting your own patterns and handling made-to-measure orders. Fashion Design runs the same two ways, covering concepts, styling and fabric alongside the practical work.
Both are taught in dedicated studios — the tailoring studio and the fashion design studio were built in 2025 — by Ms. Tayyaba Bashir and Ms. Bushra Naeem respectively. The dyeing and textile work in the gallery comes out of those rooms.
Then, the photograph
A buyer scrolling a marketplace is not comparing your garment against another garment. They are comparing your photograph against another photograph. A badly lit picture of excellent work loses to a well-lit picture of ordinary work, every time, and it is not close.
Graphic Design — a three or six month certificate with Mr. Muhammad Saad — is among the cheapest hours you can spend on your own prices. A clean listing image, a legible label, a name that looks like a business rather than a phone number.
Then, the shop
E-Commerce, taught by Ms. Syeda Mahen Zunair, is the mechanics: setting a store up, pricing so that delivery does not quietly eat the margin, handling orders and returns, and keeping track of what sold and what did not.
This is the step most people skip, and it is the one that turns a stream of favours for relatives into something with books.
Last, being found
Digital Marketing with Mr. Kaleem Shahid Khan is the difference between a shop on a side street and a shop on the main road. Who your work is for, where those people already spend their time, and what to put in front of them.
A realistic order to do this in
Do not enrol in four programmes at once. The sequence that works is slower and duller than that:
- Learn the craft first, until the work is genuinely good. Nothing downstream rescues work that is not.
- Add one — and only one — of the other three. For most people making physical goods, that is E-Commerce.
- Sell something. Badly, slowly, at the wrong price. The lessons in the next course will mean something once you have.
- Come back for the next one when you can name the problem you are trying to fix.
The college is also building an incubation centre for exactly this stage: students who have the skill and the first few sales, and need room and support to turn it into a business. Until it opens, the instructors are the next best thing, and they are on campus Monday to Saturday.
